Designing a wedding guest journey worth remembering

GuestStory Insights5 min read

A wedding booking carries more emotional weight, and a longer lead time, than almost any other reservation a venue takes. Most venues under-use both.

Wedding bookings are unusual in hospitality. The lead time is long, often a year or more, and the emotional investment is high from the moment the date is confirmed. Couples spend that year thinking, talking and posting about their wedding, yet very little of that conversation is shaped by the venue itself.

Necessary communication is not always memorable

Most venues communicate efficiently but narrowly through contracts, deposit schedules, menu tastings and logistics. All of it is necessary, but little of it is exciting to receive, and it rarely gives the couple something worth sharing with the people who will eventually be part of the day.

The couple is already building an audience

Wedding bookings are one of the few hospitality purchases where the customer actively builds an audience around the event before it happens. Engagement posts, save-the-dates and planning updates are already part of the story. A venue can provide something well-made that belongs naturally within it.

Design anticipation with the same care as the day

The opportunity is to add a small number of well-timed, well-crafted moments throughout the lead-up, building anticipation in the same considered way as the rest of the wedding experience.
